About Our Orthodontist...
Originally from Adelaide, Dr David Peters has returned to Melbourne to establish his own practice after completing his specialist qualifications and private orthodontic practice in the United States.
Dr Peters completed his three year orthodontic Masters degree and research thesis in the highly acclaimed orthodontic department at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, USA, under the direction of world leader in contemporary orthodontics, Dr William Proffit.
Dr Peters is the only Australian orthodontist to have completed the American National Board Exams, a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (with Honours) and Clinical Licensure Exams, to enable private practice in the US. Over the course of nearly seven years in USA, Dr Peters won awards for both his outstanding research and clinical skills, as well as holding a postgraduate teaching fellowship at the University of North Carolina.
Prior to embarking on an orthodontic career, Dr Peters graduated first in his class from the University of Adelaide, and gained ten years experience in general dentistry, including five years running his own practice. Since returning to Melbourne, Dr Peters has continued to teach clinical orthodontics at the University of Melbourne, and maintains an active interest in the treatment of those with dentofacial deformities, and anomalies including cleft lip and cleft palate.
With a strong interest in community health, Dr Peters has given his time in roles both here and abroad to assist underprivileged patients and indigenous communities, and to promote dental health awareness.
Dr Peters maintains active membership in several organizations locally and internationally, including the following important bodies in his profession:
- The Australian Dental Association
- The Australian Society of Orthodontists
